The new Phnom Penh International Airport’s construction is going swimmingly despite recurring and torrential rains in Phnom Penh and Kandal province.
Sin Chansereyvutha, spokesman for the State of Secretariat for Civil Aviation, said that while progress was being hampered by heavy rains and floods, contractors on the ground have taken the necessary measures to ensure vital aspects of the project are completed as planned.
According to him, around 30% of the airport is expected to be completed soon. The State Secretariat for Civil Aviation is reportedly releasing an update once it hits its milestone.
The construction of the new Phnom Penh International Airport began in 2019 and is being built and managed by the Overseas Cambodia Investment Corporation (OCIC) to the tune of $1.5 billion.
A design by Heerim, a South Korean architecture & design firm, for the new Phnom Penh International Airport in Kandal province - set to open in 2023.
The project covers 2,600 hectares and will include support for residential and commercial areas, making the airport’s vicinity a new property hub once fully operational. The first phase of the project is expected to be completed in 2023.
